Robert Ross Tunic

This is the tunic of the Commanding Officer of the Regiment, General Ross, who led the British force that burnt Washington in 1814, in retaliation for the United States' invasion of Canada. The Americans later covered up the damage on one of the few remaining buildings by painting it white: they renamed it the White House.
